Interpreting/CART Services

Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART)

CART transcribes and translates spoken text and sound into words. The text appears in real time —while the words are spoken or played — on a big screen that everyone can see, on a laptop, or on a mobile device. Remote CART can also be streamed to an Internet browser. This service is provided to Deaf/Hard of Hearing students who do not access the educational environment via manual communication methods (American Sign Language, Conceptually Accurate Signed English, Cued American English, etc.) or in classes that are highly technical.

Interpreting

Interpreters are provided to those students who utilize American Sign Language, Conceptually Accurate Signed English, Cued American English, etc. to access university programs and services..

Requests

Requests must be made as far in advance as possible to ensure availability, NC State recommends a minimum of ten business days.

Student requests for sign language interpreters or CART services should be made using the Sign Language Interpreter/Captioning Request Form.
