Meal Plan Accommodations and Food Allergy FAQs

Some students who have food allergies may be determined eligible for reasonable accommodations.  Students should contact NC State Dining to investigate options available for students and/or to request a meal plan accommodation. Students may also connect with the DRO by completing a disclosure form and submitting documentation of their disability.

The RA’s are trained to call 911 but not to administer epinephrine, per housing policy. The RA’s are informed of the symptoms of an allergic reaction in the training. The first responders have epinephrine. Epi-pens are meant to be self-administered.

NC State Dining employs a full time allergy assistant year round who attends the new student orientation breakfast and lunch to handle all allergy questions.

All foods are marked for the 8 major allergens and all menu items have an ingredient list the student can access on the touch screen in the lobby, on the mobile app and on the website.

Students with allergies can self identify and sign up with NC State Dining to get an email notice before special events in the dining halls to make sure they are aware of the special foods that contain their allergens. NC State also has an allergy support group called SAFE EATS.
